To me, nothing says summer like ice cream! Really, what could be better than sitting in the backyard, or in the park, with a nice ice cream cone on a wonderfully hot day to cool you down.
It's apple picking season and that means it's yummy food and snack season with all things apple! Take a look at some of the most delicious recipes our Curiosity Box team loves to snack on during the fall season:
Apple Oat Circles
The first recipe our team loves to enjoy is a healthy and quick snack that is a perfect pick me up in the afternoon! The little ones are sure to love this as an after school snack! This one’s so easy, the kids can even help!
Here's what you will need:
apples (whatever kind you choose!)
peanut butter or almond butter
Core out the middle of the apple. Then slick the apple in slices. Spread the nut butter onto one of the slices and sprinkle oats. Put another apple slice on top and that makes an easy apple protein sandwich!
Apple Dip - This one is seriously SOOOO good!
This recipe is perfect for functions, get together and parties all of the time! It's a family favourite and it always disappears fast! This one is dangerous too - you’ll have everyone asking for the recipe!
Here's what you will need:
Apples (we prefer the granny smith kind since the dip is so sweet)
Apple Caramel Dip
Skor bards (or whatever favourite chocolate bar you prefer)
Spread the cream cheese over a plate. Then pour the caramel sauce all over the cream cheese. Hammer the skor bar into small bits and sprinkle over top of the caramel and cream cheese mixture. Cut up the apples and serve. YUM!
Famous Apple Crisp
¼ c. water
1 tsp. Cinnamon
¼ tsp. Salt
⅓ c. margarine
1 c. brown sugar
¾ c. flour
Peel and core your apples. Slice them into thin strips and place them into the bottom of your baking dish.
Pour the water on top of the sliced apples, and sprinkle the cinnamon and salt on top.
Mix together the remaining ingredients and then sprinkle overtop of the apple mixture.
Bake for 40-50 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
When giving an apple crisp away, bake in a tin foil pie plate or baking dish (you can typically get these from the dollar store). Add some caramels to create a fall fair flavour. Serve warm with some vanilla ice cream.

Celebrate International S'mores Day in style this day this year with these awesome s'more recipes! You're little ones will be sure to begging you for s'more!
1. No Fire S'mores:
On rainy days, or days when you don't have a campfire, this treat is a perfect snack to cover that s'mores craving! Use Golden Grahams cereal, chocolate chips and marshmallows. Also a perfect snack to pack in baggies or containers for the long car ride to the camp to get the kids excited for camping and real s'mores around the fire!
2. Easy S'mores Hack:
Get S'mores in the blink of an eye! SO easy and SO YUMMY!! All you need is two Family Digestive cookies and a toasted marshmallow...s'mores have never been so easy!
3. S'more Cones:
A campfire favourite - S'more cones! All you have to do is put some chocolate chips and marshmallows in the cone and wrapped them in foil and placed them on top of the grill of the fire. They were delicious!!
Looking to make your s'more cones even more delicious? Try adding banana, M&M's, or caramel sauce!
4. S'more Brownies
What better combination than brownies and s'mores! Simply bake some delicious fudgy brownies and sprinkle marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate over top!
5. S'more Muffins - THIS IS A HOUSE FAVOURITE
This s'more recipe will be a sure crowd pleaser for your friends, family, and little ones to enjoy!
The recipe you'll need for these awesome muffins:
- 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/3 cup milk chocolate chips
- 6 tablespoons marshmallow creme
- 3 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 4 teaspoons sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup sour cream
- 3 tablespoons 2% milk
- 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
6. Pot of S'mores - This one is just too easy not to do!
Delicious, simple, and a sure way to get your crowd to ask for s'more! Grab some chocolate chips, butterscotch chips (yes, trust me, you need them), marshmallows and graham crackers, and some butter and sweetened condensed milk and voila, a masterpiece!

7. Mini S'mores but Double the Deliciousness!
This one is fantastic, easy, and a twist on your traditional s'more. Make your s'more like you normally would, but then dip them in some melted chocolate and let them cool! Serve cold with a nice glass of milk. Important Safety Note: These ones are hard to put down!

One thing we love is trying new cookie recipes. We have tried many different ones over the years, but this is still my favourite go to for a delicious, chewy oatmeal chocolate chip cookie! They are always a huge hit wherever we take them and I'm always being asked for the recipe... so here it is for me to share with you!
This recipe is great for the kids to help out with and I love taking the cookies camping, to parties and picnics and I've made them for birthday parties and playdates with my kids and also for a great afternoon snack. Ok...I'm not going to lie either, but I've made them for a late night snack too when I've been craving them. Believe me when you make these you will totally understand!
We enjoy them the best with the milk chocolate chips, but you could make them with the dark ones or the white ones and they would be great! I've also debated on trying them with raisins or craisins but I'm afraid to play around with the recipe too much. lol.
Here's what you need to make them:
- 1 cup of butter
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1 cup of white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 3 cups of oats
- 1 1/2 cups f sliced almonds
- 1 bag of chocolate chips
- 1/2 bag of sliced almonds
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
First thing you will need to do is cream together the butter and the sugars. We use our Kitchenmaid mixer as the kids really like to use it, but you can just use a hand beater as well.
Then add your eggs and vanilla and mix them in until creamy and mixed in completely.
In a separate bowl, sift the flour, salt and baking soda. Add to the creamed mixture and mix completely.
Then add your chocolate chips and any other ingredients you want to add (i.e. craisins, raisins, etc.) and your almonds.
The trick to these cookies is when you go to place them on the cookies sheet. They are gooey and messy and can be a bit tricky to place. I typically like using a spoon and "plopping" them on the tray. I have tried rolling them and they don't work out as nicely.
Cook in the oven for 8-10 minutes.
Make sure you take them out when they are light brown and not dark brown as they will become too hard if they are overcooked.

This has been a family favourite of ours for a few years now. This yummy snack is perfect for after school, a special treat in kids lunches, a yummy dessert or is also good for Easter dinner get togethers and especially great for kids Easter parties in their class room as a special treat.
Some call it by other names such as "Bunny Chow" or "Muddy Buddies" or "Puppy Chow" but we liked the name Bunny Food for Easter and my kids say that it tastes like Vanilla Cupcake so it works!
I have to say, this delicious snack was hard to share. Yes, I will admit I might have indulged in it and had to make a second batch the first time I made it! Now I know enough to double the recipe.
This recipe is fairly easy to make, you can either cook the ingredients on the stove or use a microwave and the kids will love being able to help, measure and eat too :)
I have seen other recipes like this where they add peanut butter, mini eggs, pretzels and other items so I guess you could really add anything to this delicious recipe.
Here's what you need to make our version:
- 5 cups of Chex cereal (we used the honey kind)
- 1 cup of white chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup of butter or margarine
- 1 tsp. of vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups of icing sugar
- 2 tbsp of French Vanilla Coffee Creamer
1. Measure out cereal in a large bowl. Set aside.
2. Measure white chocolate chips, butter and cream and vanilla extract in a pot stirring frequently as to not burn the ingredients. Set aside and let cool.
3. Pour the ingredients over the cereal. Mix it thoroughly.
4. Try not to eat it just yet ;)
5. Add icing sugar and sprinkles and any other toppings that you like.
I try really hard to set it on my counter and all of us to snack on it, but it literally lasts 5 minutes! I think that it would be super cute in little Easter baskets with some plastic wrap or little baggies with a ribbon and a bunny tag with "Bunny Food" on the label! Don't you?!

We tried a new popcorn recipe this weekend when we had a movie night and watched Valentine's Day movies and it was a HIT! Cupid's Popcorn Mix is great for a family movie night or would also work great in little bags for classroom treats!
This recipe is easy to make and tastes so yummy and the best part is you can be totally creative with what items you use in it.
Here's what you need:
- 1 cup of unpopped kernals or microwave popcorn
- Chocolate melts (from the Bulk Barn) - we bought red, white and pink for Valentine's Day but you could use whatever colour you want
- Valentine’s Day colored sprinkles
- Valentine’s Day Smarties
- Parchment paper or tinfoil
- Make popcorn per your preferred method
- When popping is complete, remove from heat and spread popcorn in a single layer on parchment paper or tinfoil on a tray. Try to remove any unpopped kernels at this time.
3. While popcorn cools, melt bag of white chocolate chips/bark in a microwave safe bowl at 30 second increments until completely melted.
4. Coat popcorn with the chocolate and mix without smooshing the kernels
5. Immediately follow by decorating with Valentine’s or decorative sprinkles & smarties. You can also use cinnamon hearts, marshmallows, chocolate chips, jujubes or any Valentine's Day candies.
6. Allow 1 hour for chocolate to harden.
7. Break into pieces and store in an air tight container or baggies.

My son is so excited to be making Valentine's Day Kabobs again this year for his class! Each year, the teacher asks for healthy food snacks for their class party. I love being able to make something that is fun and healthy and so these are the perfect combination!
This year, we are going to make them using heart shaped confetti instead of sprinkles. My younger son is also excited to take them in for his class this year too!
Here's what you need:
- big marshmallows
- chocolate chips or melting chocolate discs
- sprinkles or confetti of your choice
Here's how to make these kabobs:
1. Cut up your fruit.
2. Melt the chocolate in a glass dish in the microwave with some milk in it to make it creamy and smooth for dipping.
3. Dip your strawberries in the chocolate.
4. Dip the marshmallows in the chocolate and then in the sprinkles. I used two dishes so that my boys could dip one and then the other easily.
5. Skew all of your items onto the skewers.
